At Animas High School juniors complete a 3-week internship every day instead of attending normal class. My internship was with Sotheby's Legacy Properties West and I shadowed the owner, different brokers, the marketing team, and the camera and drone team. Animas High School really focuses a lot on public speaking and creativity and those skills really helped me succeed in my internship. I was able to speak up with ideas and questions and not feel nervous when meeting clients and new people on the Sothebys team. During the internship, I really got to work on my overall people skills, communication skills, teamwork, and leadership skills. When I was meeting new clients and new brokers I used emotional intelligence and listening skills so I could really take in what I was being taught. I also got a lot of free time and was put on a lot of projects without a lot of supervision. I and another intern worked together a lot and we succeeded in the tasks we were given and worked with the others around me as a team and no one just took over. There was a lot of collaboration involved in the projects we did and a lot of real-world independence. During my link, I really had to use my voice and communicate what I needed and what I wanted to get out of the internship. There were times when I felt like I was ready to do more and wanted more challenges so I reached out to my mentors and asked them for more work and simply told them I wanted to learn as much as I could during the 3 weeks. My internship taught me a lot about the market and real estate and business and was a great experience but I also got so much independence and time management and real-life skills from it as well. It's amazing that we have a community that's so willing to take on interns when it is a lot of extra work for them. But when you take in an intern and are a good mentor you can really change the lives of your intern and help them decide what they do or don't want to do and just give them experiences they couldn't get otherwise. My internship made me pretty positive that I want to study business and then branch off into what I'm interested in. I really enjoy the real estate side of business and there is a lot of room for growth and creativity in the way homes are sold. My internship really just made me ready to be more independent and truly makes me excited for the future. I wish it was longer because it was truly an incredible experience I would love to do it again anytime.
Project:
For link you are asked to make a project while you are in your internship. The project is supposed to demonstrate what you learned and got out of your internship. I made a video of a house that was on the market. I used my new camera skills and skills to record what I know people are looking for.
